EKG Diagnostic MonitoringOur hospital grade EKG equipment enables Dr. Sanderson to provide levels of dental care that many patients assumed to be impossible for them to complete or even initiate. His experience as an Emergency Medical Technician has been beneficial in providing our patients with a technological edge that is comforting for patients undergoing sedation supported treatents. Sedation dentistry is thought of, by many dental patients, as dental treatment that is provided with medications (drugs taken orally or intravenously) for creating a state of relaxation or, for some patients, a level of consciousness that allows patients to alter their awareness of treatment. Many patients nonetheless are frustrated in learning that many forms of sedation are not available to them because of possible medication conflicts (sedation meds conflict with other medications patient is taking for other conditions), potential problems associated with metabolic disorders, respiratory complications and even heart ailments and abnormalities. We work very hard to help our patients find the best combination of treatments that will work for their individual circumstance. Another group of patients may avoid dentistry entirely due to suspected or anticipated reactions that effectively cause them to develop common dental anxieties that unfortunately can develop into significant dental phobias. Oral Conscious Sedation has been very helpful in these circumstances. Defeating Common Anxieties with Technical DataOur EKG monitoring instruments include a pulse oximeter, pulse rate monitor, blood pressure monitor, EKG heart monitor and a temperature monitor.Patients with known heart or respiratory ailments who seek treatment with Dr. Sanderson are comforted in knowing we have state agency approved defibrillator equipment (Automatic Electronic Defibrillator) as an added measure of secured safety. The EKG monitor enables Dr. Sanderson to immediately diagnose an unusual arrythmia. Many times we have been able to make the appropriate referral to a Cardiologist or the patient's Internist so that appropriate treatment can be carried out. If the patient had not been in to see us they would not have had an EKG run and would not have known about some problems they have had until much later. This added feature appeals to patients with congenital or arrythmia problems who may have avoided dentistry in the past. Medication and Medical History ReviewAll patients seeking sedation services undergo a complete medical records and medication review. Consults, as needed, are sometimes made with other professionals that may be treating the patient. As treatment needs are being planned, the patient is provided a plan of services that incorporates the best combination of various sedation methods for the different procedures being used.Diminishing Sedation LevelsSedation techniques and products can vary for a patient throughout the treatment plan. There is no one-sedation-fits-all concept used in our practice. Most patients discover the need for medications in some treatment activities may eventually diminish (see our oral sedation video testimonial).Call us at 205-979-6005 to learn more about the advancements in laser dentistry and how Dr. Sanderson can put these technologies to work for you within a variety of reconstructive, restorative, cosmetic and implant dentistry procedures.
